5th October, 2021- CPACD COOP, Bouboudi

Gnagbo Abole Alphonse , 35, one wife, 6 children. Cocoa Farmer and Coach at the cooperative.

I am happy Barry Callebaut does a lot for us. They give us cocoa seedlings and shade tree seedlings. They also the farmers coaches to show them how to farm effectively. They also visit the families of cocoa farmers to see if they need help and to also advise, train and support them against Child Labour. To encourage farmers, they give them wheel barrows, school books for the kids and many other gifts.
SACO also gives us fertilizers and insecticides but those we pay for In installments.

It’s a win win situation. We gladly sell our beans to SACO because they also support us.

To me, the most important benefit our communities have gained from is that all our children go to school, and stay in school. Sensitizing farmers against Child Labour has really paid off.

My father died when I was young and my mother did very well for me but I still dropped out of school just when I was about to go to university because she just couldn’t afford it. I want all my children to go as far as they can academically so they can become whatever they want. I want to give them what I couldn’t have.
